In the focus: North Sea --- Baltic Sea --- Black Sea --- Global Data

North Sea:

From the deeper geology to the uppermost layers of recent sediment covers there is a variety of information included in the internet maps. Most of the by now available data sources do not contain data sets which cover the whole North sea. Therefore the aquisition of data (as part of the aim in the project) is still ongoing in order to fill the gaps.

Baltic Sea:

The western region of the Baltic Sea is the special target area of METROL. The development of the whole area after the last glaciation can also be viewed with IMS. Follow the deglaciation in several steps like a flip-book. A short outline of the history can be downloaded here as pdf-file.

Viewing the last 14000 years as a flip book in the IMS is not possible at the moment because of reinstallation of the IMS for this Map View. The Development of the Baltic Sea - A short historical Review (3518kb)

Black Sea

The Northwestern rim of the Black Sea was investigated during a POSEIDON cruise in 2004. The aim lay on investigating the submarine river fans and canyons of the Danube and the Dniepr. Most of the data gained there is still in a status of being unpublished.

Global Data

A literature collection of Metrol relevant data of the whole world is presented here. The point data includes features like positions of seeps, mud volcanoes, etc. and was compiled as meta data. This means you get information where on the globe you can find a certain feature you are looking for. Sometimes details were given in the literature source in addition to a single feature (e. g. details like flux rate, etc.). This data is not presented here but stored in a database at the AWI.
br>Five parameter groups (FreeGas/Shallow Gas, Gas Hydrates, Methane related features, Mud volcanoes, Seepages as given in the IMS legend, see under "Methane..."-Group) were distinguished and subdivided further into single parameters. The literature source of every single point is given in the attribute table belonging to the data you see in the map. Get information for a single data point via the i-button or use the QUERY and FIND tools. Then you directly enter the attribute table. For making familiar with these parameters and as a help list for possible queries please download the parameter list. Each parameter has its own ID which enables you to select this "Global Point Data" further by using the Query-Tool in the IMS. More information about Queries etc. in the IMS Help.
